Biography

Inspired by the French Impressionism movement of the 1880s, I have this notion that my camera is able to capture an essence, or feeling, of my surroundings.

Imagine that regardless of where you are, you may not be paying particular attention to people, buildings, nature, or really, much of anything. Your mind is filled with your normal everyday life and perhaps the anxieties that go along with it.

Perhaps, however, a color, an object, or even a person catches your eye for that briefest of moments. You glance up momentarily and contemplate what it was distracted you, then just as quickly withdrawing back into your own thoughts.

My vision is to capture that moment, in a uniquely impressionistic way.

The images you see are 100% photography. I first use intentional camera movement (ICM) or multi-exposures captures to create the first image. Then I merge this with an image taken of nearby textures (ground cover, sand, sidewalks, granite, marble, etc.) which gives the image a "brush stroke feel" that provides the impressionistic essence that I'm attempting to capture.

Large unframed prints are also available through my website, or feel free to contact me at dsp@danshehan.com.
