CITY ART TO SPOTLIGHT FEMALE FIGURES IN MARCH

SAN FRANCISCO - In celebration of Woman's History Month, the CITY ART Cooperative Gallery will highlight the artwork of women during its March show.

"Female Figures," is the title of the art exhibit to run throughout the month of March at CITY ART. An opening reception featuring 25 local artists will be held Friday, March 1, 2002 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the 828 Valencia Street gallery.

"We're very excited and proud to celebrate Woman's History Month with an exhibit featuring female figures," said Staci Batchelder, show curator. "This show highlights art by women celebrating the history of women.

"In addition to making artwork accessible to a greater spectrum of society, CITY ART believes it's also important to share in the diversity of our culture," Batchelder said. "Celebrating the diversity of women's culture will be a consistent theme throughout the show."

Owned and managed by local artists, CITY ART is a cooperative gallery of creative individuals who consistently strive to promote creative awareness and expression in the community. Local art buyers can pay affordable prices for art from talented artists and, at the same time, support San Francisco's art community

The gallery is kept alive by all of its members, as well as a large, diverse and loyal customer base. Artists not only hang and sell their art, they have the opportunity to help run a gallery while learning the business of art in a friendly atmosphere.

Local art buyers are encouraged to attend the March 1 exhibit opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Those who do attend get the first look and an opportunity to buy the newest art to hit the streets of San Francisco. Prices for art pieces at CITY ART fall within the $100 to $500 range.

"Female Figures" runs through March 30. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday from Noon to 9 p.m. CITY ART is located at 828 Valencia Street between 19th and 20th streets and easily accessible by the BART and MUNI. CITY ART can be reached at 415-970-9900.
