October 15, 2002 CITY ART TO SPOTLIGHT NEW LOCAL ARTISTS IN NOVEMBER SAN FRANCISCO - In an ongoing effort to make contemporary art available and affordable to local art buyers, creative works by emerging artists will be exhibited in November at the CITYART Gallery. An opening reception for the month-long exhibit will be held Friday, Nov. 1, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the 828 Valencia Street gallery. "We're very excited and proud to have new, emerging local artist as part of our artist cooperative and exhibiting in November," said CITY ART Core Member Katie Gilmartin. "We at CITY ART want to make artwork accessible to a greater spectrum of our community. Local and first-time art buyers can pay affordable prices for art from some very talented artists and, at the same time, support San Francisco's art community." Owned and managed by local artists, CITY ART is a cooperative gallery of creative individuals who consistently strive to promote creative awareness and expression in the community. "The gallery has experienced consistent growth this year as a result of its committed group of member artists, as well as a large, diverse and loyal customer base," Gilmartin. "Member artists not only hang and sell their art, they have the opportunity to help operate the gallery while learning the art business." Local art buyers are encouraged to attend the Nov. 1 exhibit opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Those who do attend can meet the artists who created the work and have the first opportunity to buy the newest art in San Francisco. "The artists whose works are on display in November come from very diverse backgrounds," Gilmartin said. "However, they share one thing in common - they have the talent to create interesting, thought-provoking, and beautiful, art." "Most of the art sold at the CITY ART Gallery fall within the $100 to $500 price range," she said. "As the holidays approach, I can't think of a better or more unique gift than an original piece of art for a friend or family member. "What's unique about CITY ART is that we welcome first-time art buyers who may not know how to go about purchasing art," she said. "The friendly atmosphere at CITY ART gives first-time art buyers the opportunity to look at many different styles and mediums without the pressure felt at other galleries. What's unique about CITY ART is that art buyers have the opportunity to hear from an artist - not a gallery salesperson - about the art work they might be interested in purchasing." The exhibit will run through Nov. 30. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday from Noon to 9 p.m. CITY ART is located at 828 Valencia Street between 19th and 20th streets and easily accessible by BART and MUNI. Public parking is available two blocks away on 21st Street between Valencia and Mission streets. CITY ART can be reached at 415-970-9900 or through its website at www.cityartgallery.org. |
