CITY ART “NAKED IN AUGUST” SHOW TO WOW SF ART LOVERS

SAN FRANCISCO - The Fifth Annual "Naked In August" exhibit will be held at CITY ART Gallery in August. This year's exhibit will include nude representations of art from a number of San Francisco artists using different styles and mediums. An opening reception for the month-long exhibit will be held Friday, Aug. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the 828 Valencia Street gallery. The public is encouraged to attend the opening reception and meet the artists who create the art.

The annual “Naked in August” shows began five years ago from a suggestion made by one of the cooperative gallery's member artist, August Wood. The August exhibit has become one of the most popular themes at CITY ART. Local art buyers are encouraged to attend the August 6 exhibit opening reception. Those who attend get the first look at the newest nude art in San Francisco. A majority of the art displayed and sold at the CITY ART Gallery fall within the $100 to $500 price range.

“Member artists at the CITY ART Cooperative Gallery want to make it possible for anyone - no matter the income level -- to purchase original art,” said Katie Gilmartin, one of City Art’s founding members. “A person who makes a purchase at CITY ART not only gets the best deal in town, he or she becomes an important part of the development of an emerging artist. And, at the same time, the art buyer supports San Francisco's art community.”

Gilmartin said CITY ART differentiates itself from other local galleries in that the artists who create the art - not sales representatives - operate and manage the gallery.

Our member artists not only hang and sell their art, they have the opportunity to help run a gallery by volunteering to work shifts throughout the month," she said. "Art buyers will not experience the pressure felt at other galleries, and they'll have the opportunity to talk to those who created the art."

The "Nude In August" show runs through Sunday, Aug. 29. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday from Noon to 9 p.m.
