Lois Wang (All My Fairy Tales)

Artist Bio

Lois is a Taiwanese-American artist based in San Francisco whose ever-changing hair color reflects her vibrant creative spirit. Growing up as a child who was always trying to fit in despite looking capable of playing the part, she began a lifelong journey of morphing and reshaping herself—a process that continues as she navigates migrating to a different country alone. Beneath the pretty surface of her life and work, strong currents tumble and roar.

Lois primarily works with water-based materials like watercolor and acrylics in her paintings, as well as epoxy and resin in sculpting. In recent years, she has been deeply drawn to acrylic pouring—a technique that allows her to dedicate time to letting the paint flow, crafting beautiful, unexpected patterns, and embracing randomness. She considers this practice a form of "conscious randomness," a precise point where control meets chaos. Each piece serves as a reminder to embrace imperfection while striving for excellence, finding a quiet beauty in letting go of the pursuit of perfection.

Her work is infused with warmth and emotion, touching hearts and sparking wonder. While her visual language is deeply rooted in cuteness—expressed through soft forms, vibrant, fluorescent colors, and whimsical characters—there is always an unsettling undercurrent. This intentional contrast balances sweetness with sadness, and charm with discomfort. Through her whimsical illustrations and adorable resin figures, this tension invites viewers to reflect on what lies beneath the surface—not just within the artwork, but within themselves. Ultimately, Lois hopes to bring a little extra magic to the world, one piece at a time, proving that the stories told visually cannot be flattened; they are layered, contradictory, and deeply human.
